Need plans for your long weekend? Here are some fun ideas for a great Labor Day Weekend in New York City.
1. Go to the beach or one of the city’s many public pools.
Celebrate the unofficial end of summer with one trip to the beach! Take public transit to the Rockaways or other beaches for a day in the sun. If you don’t like sand or that subway ride sounds a little too long, visit a public pool. Find the closest one to you here.
2. Take a trip up to The Cloisters and Fort Tryon Park.
Hop off the subway that 190th St to escape the busy city. At The Cloisters, you can see a variety of European medieval art and architecture, have a meal, and relax in the garden. Afterward, take a walk around quiet and wooded Fort Tryon Park. If you can’t make it up to 190th, pack a lunch and hang out in one of New York City’s parks.
3. Check out the Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit.
Take a walk around the Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit. Booths featuring the work of artists from around the world will be open from noon until 6PM on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Make a few fun purchases and then grab a bite to eat in the Village.
4. Celebrate at the West Indian-American Day Parade.
WIADCA’s parade starts at 11AM on Labor Day. This celebration of Caribbean culture and heritage marches down Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights and lasts nearly all day. Enjoy Caribbean food and music from vendors along the parade route, meet some people, and dance your way into the week ahead!
5. Go for a day hike.
Catch a train from Grand Central Station to sections of the Appalachian Trail, the Old Croton Aqueduct, and other trails and parks. Make sure to take plenty of water and food as you venture out of the city for the day!
6. Watch the NYC Labor Day Parade.
Although it technically happens after Labor Day, the NYC Labor Day Parade is a fun, traditional way to celebrate our workforce! The parade takes place September 10, 2016, at 10AM. It begins at 44th St, makes its way up Fifth Ave, and ends at 72nd St. Wrap up your Labor Day celebrations with this annual event.
We hope all of you have a fun, safe Labor Day!Pan Am Equities
