MAGIC Activity Center, a learning environment that offers comprehensive children’s enrichment programs, birthday parties, and Summer Days Camp, is currently offering a mini-semester program of Do-Re-Music classes at The Caroline. We spoke with MAGIC Activity Center to learn more about the classes they offer and how they’re engaging children and helping them learn in a fun, hands-on environment.
Q. How does MAGIC Activity Center enrich and engage young students?
A. We think learning should be fun! All of our teachers are engaging and warm and present their curriculum in a way that feels like play to students, but is deeply rooted in tried and true early childhood philosophies. Just as important, we partner with parents and caregivers to make sure the learning continues at home. It’s not enough that our teachers know why peek-a-boo or color sorting are important developmental games, we want our parents to know too so that learning continues beyond the classroom door!
Q. Tell us a little more about the Do-Re-Music Family class and the benefits of this class.
A. This is not a baby concert where the kids are simply listening to a great musician. This is a fully interactive class that gets kids exploring instruments, music, and dance because we know that physical interaction with the music is what gets those synapses firing. Do-Re-Music is rooted in music theory and introduces children to dynamics, rhythm and pitch in a fun and engaging way. We love the look on parents’ faces when they realize that their toddler knows that Forte means to play LOUD!
Q. What other types of classes do you offer at your Upper East Side location?
A. MAC is a one-stop shop for early childhood education. Starting at 2 months old, we offer baby classes. At 6 months, children can begin both gym and music classes and at 14 months they can enroll in art as well. Around 18 months, children can begin preschool alternative classes which many students remain in until they go to kindergarten.
Q. Which is the most popular class or program that you offer?
A. Our MAP (MAGIC Alternative Preschool) program has become so popular we have a waiting list. As early as 18 months, our students can participate in Double Time which is an introduction to the classroom experience with their caregiver. Around 2 years, students begin the separation process in Busy Bee but are already familiar with the classroom and some of the teachers from Double Time. As they graduate up to My Own Time and Classroom Kids, we introduce handwriting, science, math, collaborative art and a host of other fun and engaging activities.
Q. How can parents register their children for classes or the Summer Days Camp?
A. Camp is a blast and this year we will be traveling the globe to explore different cultures through cooking, art, science experiments and, of course, spending some time jumping through the sprinklers on our rooftop playground. Registration for camp will be live on the website mid-January. You will see all the countries we will be exploring, sign up for a tour and register for your selected weeks.Pan Am Children, Pan Am Equities, PanAm, The Caroline, The Caroline NYC
